Think I'm gonna move to setting up a split horizon DNS setup for my self hosted stuff since its been working fairly well for my xmpp server and its nice having a local connection to my servers instead of making a round trip to the vps that runs the wireguard endpoint

@norm This is one of the reasons my lab runs IPv6-only beyond the singular "legacy IP" load-balancer-thing: It's so much easier when the public DNS address is the canonical "internal" IP of the service. The VPS would just handle the routing for anything without a more direct connection. (In my case it's just a hurricane tunnel though, not a full VPS)

The particularly nice thing about using routing for this instead of DNS? It doesn't matter if a browser tries to go behind my back and dns-over-https "for security." the traffic will still get routed over the LAN or site-to-site VPN instead of going "the long way around."
