okay I think I have a plan for the minecraft server, to kit out my $50 5700G machine: - 2x 120GB SATA SSDs, used, to run in RAID 1, $20 each - 2x 16GB optane M10 modules, new, to run in RAID 0 and store the minecraft world, $8.80 each
@izzy@ezio oh interesting, I assume the price is old stock then, as the small optance accelerator drives are discontinued and they have the combo SSD ones only now
@theking@ezio yeah the H10s and H20s are pricey but the small M10s are super cheap because they're only useful to weird nerds that want solid state swap or scratch space
@izzy@ezio I wish the 32gb or 64gb ones were cheaper 4x32gb or 4x64gb optane in a 16x splitter would be amazing I bet Raid 0 it and make one crazy scratch disk
@izzy@theking@ezio random iops doesn't really change with pcie generation so, if anything optane is basically the way to go even in a pcie 5 system for low qd random io
