this poll is mostly for folks who run an instance?

how much RAM you got and is it a VPS or bare metal?

@heather akko.wtf is on a VPS with 8 GB RAM, shrimp.biribiri.dev is on a Pi 4 with 4 GB RAM

I have run the former with 4 GB of RAM before, only reason I have more is cause it's the smallest VPS size with the necessary disk space.

That's performant despite being on a VPS with like 1 gig of RAM. it doesn't even seem real, but I think part of the reason it's able to run this well is because it is a compiled implementation of ActivityPub, Rather than like python or Ruby or JavaScript or some other screwy thing. I don't even know what people use under the hood. on half of these things I've never bothered to install

written in go, and compiled sure is fucking weird, but it gets the job done so I'm not going to overthink it

@heather I kinda want to try running GTS on an old netbook (somewhat of a tradition for me to run fedi software on that thing)

It's nice seeing fedi software running on smaller systems, makes it more accessible to more people willing to run their own instance.

This instance is running Iceshrimp.NET, which is written in C#. Memory usage isn't too bad though it's more than GTS I think.
