with a FreeBSD based OS like OPNsense, the main options are like 5-10 year old enterprise nics, which are fine but also tend to use more power and generate more heat
though I guess with recent work on adding/improving support for aquantia and realtek nics in freebsd (largely via porting the openbsd drivers) it probably might be fine sticking with it for a bit longer
